Brewers Player Power Rankings
Power Rankings have become a phenomenon of the internet age. I enjoy them. I enjoy reading them, writing them, and debating them. We are 3-months into the season so what better time to get started, right?
Brewers Individual Power Rankings among the 25 Active Players – (for now with this being the first edition, bold means “rising” and italics means “falling”
#1: SP Zack Greinke – He is as close to a guaranteed “W” the Brewers have seen on the mound since CC in 2008
#2: OF Ryan Braun – Braun is putting up MVP Numbers once again for the Brewers. The problem is, like last year with Matt Kemp, his at-bats have been virtually “meaningless”
#3: 3B Aramis Ramirez – A-Ram has been climbing. Ramirez has hit safely in 14 of 18 games this month with 9-games of multiple hits.
#4: RP Francisco Rodriguez – By allowing only 1-run in his last 9-games, K-Rod’s ERA has dipped from 4.68 on June 7th to 3.82 today (June 25th)
#5: SP Yovani Gallardo – Brewer fans want more from Yo…but with 12 of his 15 starts being “quality”, he has one more than Greinke. His bad has been really bad. QUIT NIBBLING!
#6: SP Michael Fiers – Even if he gets sent down to Triple-A for Marco Estrada’s spot, Fiers has notched a 2013 spot in the rotation in my opinion
#7: OF Norichika Aoki – Aoki has emerged to the top of the “OF Triad” with Gomez and Morgan. His average has fallen from .300 to .279 over the last few weeks though
#8: 1B Corey Hart – The power is there for Hart and he is starting to feel more comfortable at first-base. However, that is about all he has going in 2012
#9: C Martin Maldonado – Maldonado is going to make it hard for the Brewers once Lucroy comes back; he has been better than expected in Suitcase’s absence
#10: RP Kameron Loe – Loe has had a couple of rough outings of late but his numbers are best in the bullpen in 2012
#11: SP Randy Wolf – Wolf has been good enough the last month to keep his spot when Estrada comes back (plus he makes $10 million a year); his 2-5 record should be much better
#12: 2B Rickie Weeks – When a sub .200 hitter is this high on your roster power rankings, you have to be a sub .500 team
#13: CL John Axford – A terrible couple of weeks for the Axe man but don’t expect him to lose his job…He has earned some leeway with his job
#14: OF Carlos Gomez – Gomez is once again marred in one of his “use his power” phases…please stop! His defense is still UNREAL!
#15: RP Jose Veras – About as exciting a relief pitcher can be…he makes K-Rod look pristine
#16: OF Nyjer Morgan – T-Whats-the-Count has had way too many mental mistakes to keep consistent at-bats
#17: IF Cody Ransom – He is what he is
#18: C George Kottaras – Maldonado has outplayed him, however, his lefty “power” bat and Wolf partnership will keep him around
#19: RP Manny Parra – Has given up runs in 5 of his last 7 appearances…his lefty arm is keeping him around
#20: IF Taylor Green – Reminding me of Mat Gamel the last few years…not taking advantage of his opportunities
#21: RP Tim Dillard – Guys below him, not really much to say so he is here by default
#22: IF/OF Travis Ishikawa – injury hampered his chance with Corey Hart now pretty much cemented at first
#23: IF Cesar Izturis – Defense good, offense bad…welcome back?
#24: RP Mike McClendon – Is he greater than Chulk and Perez?
#25: RP Livan Hernandez- would have been a better move for the 2006 through 2010 Brewers…not sure of his role
Thanks for voting and enjoy!!!
