Brewers Player Power Rankings (07/16/2012)
Here is my look at the Brewers 25-man Roster Power Rankings…tough week for change with only 3-games but I did my best
***NOTE: The number in parenthesis is change from last week***
#1: OF Ryan Braun (-) – His All-Star Game performance alone would have been enough to keep him on top
#2: SP Zack Greinke (-) – Each start makes you wonder if this will be his last as a Brewer
#3: 3B Aramis Ramirez (-) – Up to a 9-game hitting streak; the only thing keeping him ahead of Yovani Gallardo at this point
#4:SP Yovani Gallardo (-) – A career high 14 punch-outs Sunday helps remind everyone how good he can be
#5: 1B Corey Hart (+2) – 6 of 12 in the Pittsburgh series…this would be a good time for Hart to get hot
#6: OF Norichika Aoki (-1) – Streak was snapped Friday but he already started a new on Saturday…it’s nice to have a “prototypical” lead-off hitter
#7: SP Michael Fiers (-1) –Hasn’t pitched in a while so nothing I can really say
#8: RP Francisco Rodriguez (+1) – 2-scoreless inning in the Pittsburgh series; he will help the Brewers (or someone else) down the stretch if he stays solid
#9: SP Marco Estrada (-1) – Estrada won’t be a solid starter until he can work past the 6th inning…though his strike-outs where on Saturday night
#10: C Martin Maldonado (-) – A big three-hit day adds to the Brewers brass already tough decision on what to do when Lucroy comes back
#11: 2B Rickie Weeks (-) – Got back to .200 Friday night but dipped back to .199 by the end of the weekend…
#12: RP Manny Parra (+3) – has a 1.17 ERA in his last 10-outings, is he quietly finding his niche?
#13: CL John Axford (-) – Two outings, one-save and one-run in a non-save opportunity…still struggling with his constancy
#14: IF Cody Ransom (+4) - A game winning Grand Slam will move you ahead of under performers easily
#15: RP Kameron Loe (-3) – Gave up two-runs and was tagged with the loss Saturday…not good for the up-and-down Loe
#16: SP Randy Wolf (-) – See Michael Fiers
#17: RP Jose Veras (-) – WOW! A scoreless inning WITHOUT a Walk!!!!!! It’s a start
#18: IF Cesar Izturis (-) – Continues to be what he is…though he has gotten hits and made plays in his chances unlike the guys below
#19: OF Carlos Gomez (-5) – Hart at first could have been a blessing…however Aoki and his platoon with Morgan continues to keep him quiet
#20: OF Nyjer Morgan (-) – His disappointing 2012 continues
#21: IF/OF Travis Ishikawa (+1) - A big pinch-hit RBI Friday led to a start Saturday where Ish went 0-for-5
#22: C George Kottaras (-1) – He went from a key contributor in April to a guy that if/when Randy Wolf goes, he could too
#23: RP Tyler Thornburg (NR) – In his first bullpen appearance, Thornburg gave up a run and a hit, walked a pair, and struck three in two innings…need to see more
#24: IF Jeff Bianchi (NR) – 0-for-4 in his start for the Brewers…o-for stretches have been the norm for Milwaukee pinch hitters
#25: RP Livan Hernandez (-1) – See Randy Wolf OR Michael Fiers (though he has been worse than both)
Dropped from the Rankings: RP Tim Dillard (23), IF Taylor Green (25)
