BREWERS BIGGEST FAN: My day with Ben Rouse

Äæåê Ðè÷åð ñìîòðåòü îíëàéí â õîðîøåì êà÷åñòâå

You might remember when I called Ben Rouse a dilweed for going to every STINKING BREWER game BOTH  HOME AND AWAY this year.

Then I found out it was for charity.

Then I promised to go the game with him (and donate a $100 to his cause).

Then I did it. Game 123, Aug. 22, day game.

Those ain’t sweat stains. Ok, they are sweat stains.

And here’s what I found out.

He’s a Brewers maniac.  Truly watches every pitch and keeps count.  Here’s his blog.  It’s absolutely incredible.  He keeps stats, takes pics of every game, and gives you a day by day, almost minute by minute, or rather pictch by pitch of his adventure.

Ben still claps at good plays, cheers them on, gets excited for the sausage race and the guess the moving ball game.  I was impressed, shocked, and somewhat baffled.  I mean it’s borderline obsessive.

He is a glove wearing guy.  Which really tells you the level of his fandom.  He only wears it when a lefty is up.   So I think in the 5th a ball is hit, I yell “You got this.”   Seriously, I yelled it, it was perfectly to him.  And it pops out of his glove.  He was pretty upset with himself.  I thought it was funny.   Well… we move on.

Ben drives 60 miles each way 2.5 hrs round trip to the home games.  Every one.  See the obsession, passion?

The MLB helped.  1 ticket on the road and two at home games.

He has sat in front row amy seats.  Amy reached out him via twitter.   The vast majority of his national and local exposure he traces back to twitter.  It’s a powerful forum to reach people, there is no doubt about that.

Ben’s a leukemia survivor and I think he’s a little lost right now what to do with his life. He believes he got a second chance at life and I can tell he doesn’t want to blow it.

Ben at that time was 0-65 on the 50/50 thing.  Yep, he even does the 50/50 thing.  Going to the game with him was like attending with someone who loves the Brewers but had never attended the game.  He was that pumped up.

Ben is currently in the midst of  39 games in 41 days….and seeing the Brewers play well.  I can only imagine how pumped he is for this.

He flys sporadically, mostly drives and has enough connections around the country will only stay in a hotel 10 nights (including the hilton hooked him up when they found out about him on, you guessed it, twitter) and taking 17 one way flights.

He will have logged 40,000 travel miles.

As far as me and Ben knows he is the 2nd to do this in mlb history, yankees fan did it last year, his friend made it 57 games… and then realized it was insane (or at least obsessive).

I left in the 7th of a Brewers, Cubs day game, had other shit to do, and hell it was Cubs, Brewers in mid August.   Ben stayed for the last pitch like he always does.  The Brewers won.  Ben cared more.   He always does.

If you want to learn more about that day from Ben’s post or about Ben, go here.   (You can and should also make a donation to his cause there.)
